What is Per Capita?

What is Per Capita?

  • Per Capita means literally per head, and it’s used to denote an average value for a population.

How Do I  Remember It?

  • Think of per capita as “per person.” It’s like a way of expressing something in terms of each individual in a population, giving an average value for each person.

Real World Example

  • For example, per capita GDP is calculated by dividing the total GDP of a country by its population. This gives an average GDP figure that represents the economic output per person in the country.
